Ch. 15: The Faithfulness of God

Numbers 23:19
19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Questions
1. We’ve all seen unfaithful things in our lives. Whether it’s parents, neighbors, pastors, Freshman Group Directors, people tend to be unfaithful. How does a view of God as being faithful rock your world?
2. Tozer believes that most heresy’s come from an elevating of one of God’s qualities over another. What qualities of God do you elevate over another and because of that have a wrong pictures of God?

God’s faithfulness really helps me to go through life with great peace. We’ve heard from Tozer a bunch of times that all of God’s qualities are equally immeasurable. Basically, God doesn’t have more justice than mercy, he doesn’t have more goodness than love. Justice is there in mercy, and love in judgment. None of God’s qualities are lacking at any moment. God is always self-sufficient, omnipotent, and never changes. The cool thing about God never changing is that he will always be faithful to us. We can always count on God’s qualities of being immeasurable to be there for us all the time.
This is cool for me and sobering as I think of the a whole world that does not know Christ. It’s cool to remember as Christians that God has separated our sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:8-12). That’s good for me to remember in times when I do something wrong and I think that God doesn’t like me anymore. At the same time it helps me to remember to get things right with God because I know that I do need to confess my sins and keep a right relationship with God to be used in the way he wants me to be used (Psalm 66:18). But it also reminds me that there’s a world that is going to face judgment and that they need to hear the Gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10). God is definitely faithful and he’s going to show his justice and his love to everyone in the world. Whether they choose to follow Christ or not his love and his justice will hold out. Let’s believe God to be faithful and follow through with what he tells us is true from his word.
