Ch.7: The Eternity of God

Psalm 90

Questions for Thought
1. How does God’s eternal nature help/change your view of him?
2. How do we live with an eternal mindset about God and people?

Mike’s Thoughts
The idea of eternity does a couple of things for me. It first of all helps me to view God as unbelievable, because he is eternal. He has no beginning and no end. A day is like a thousand years. Everything is happening simultaneously for him and yet Jesus put himself in the limits of time for 33 years and became like us. That’s sweet that God is that and something that really causes me to worship him.
But it also shows us that we are everlasting being in that we have a beginning, but no end. That’s a cool, yet incredibly scary concept. Awesome in the fact that I’ll get to be with God someday, but scary in the sense that what happens in this life will ring out into eternity. What I do in this life will dictate what rewards I’ll receive when I die (2 Corinthians 5:10). What I do in this life will also affect the eternity of Christians and non-Christians I come in contact with everyday. Everyone we walk by, sit by in class, live next to, are eternal beings. The only thing that will last in eternity are people. It won’t be your schoolwork, it won’t be your reputation, it will be people. Some of those are going to heaven and some are going to hell. Some are living a Christian life that will be greatly rewarded in heaven and some are not living to the fullness that they could be. Let’s live to love a God that’s eternal and let’s live to love people whose eternal rewards and salvation lie everyday in the responsibility we have to love others.
