Mike’s Thoughts
I love that God, being self-sufficient, and infinite, implies that he has all the power too. It’s exciting to know a God that has infinite amount of every positive qualities we see on this earth and especially power. If you’re the captain of a kickball team, the first person you’re going to pick is the most powerful one. God’s on our side and he’s got the best leg of anyone, with the most power. Why would you ever pick someone besides God to be on your team?
I remember reading this chapter at a time when I was really lacking the belief that God could change people’s hearts and my heart. I was working really hard to do ministry, because I thought that was the way to see fruit. I was tired out and burnt out like the guy Tozer mentioned. Being reminded that nothing is impossible without God reminded me that I have to trust in him.
Jesus told us that apart from him we can do nothing. Assumed with the fact that we can’t do anything without Jesus is the fact that we can do lots of things with Jesus’ power. In fact, just a chapter before that. John 14:12 says, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing, he will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” Jesus did some great things in his life. All through the power of the Father. Jesus made that power available for us through his Spirit (John 14 and 16). Do you believe that? God’s been changing my heart to believe that God has the power to do great things and I’ve been learning to trust in that strength and lean upon that strength. Whatever it is that you’re trying to do, if it’s according to God’s word, believe that through God all things are possible, abide in Him as the all-powerful God by saying that to him and trusting in Him and I think you’ll see some amazing things happen.
